Kate's story — Mum's the Word

I started putting my feelings into words during maternity leave by writing poetry and I sent my poems to my friends Sarah and Tim who had also just had a baby. Tim just happens to be an illustrator and so he started to answer my poems with wonderful images. It wasn’t long before the poems and illustrations turned into a book. I called it ‘The Newborn Mother’ as for me, the mother is just as much a newborn as her baby.

What was meant to be a keepsake for two families became a way of us supporting each other with the transition into parenthood. Then came an exhibition of the poems and illustrations and I haven’t stopped writing since.

‘The Newborn Mother’ is dedicated to my son Otto and to Tim’s daughter Astrid. It is the perfect gift for new mothers and newborn families.
